Terms of Service
The rules for using Rotector's tools, APIs, extension, and paid tiers
Last updated: April 28, 2026
Agreement to Terms
These Terms cover everything we offer: the browser extension, the detection system and APIs, the rotector.com website, the Discord bot and moderation tools, and any paid backer or membership tier (collectively, the "Services"). By installing, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Your use of the Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy and the legal-basis explanation at The law and Rotector, both of which are incorporated by reference.
Important: Rotector is a community-driven initiative and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Roblox Corporation or Discord Inc.
What the Services Are
The Services include:
- A browser extension that displays safety status indicators when you view a Roblox account.
- An automated classification pipeline that analyses public Roblox profiles, group memberships, and public-channel Discord activity in inappropriate-context servers.
- A queue and appeals system through the Rotector live chat.
- Developer APIs and a Discord bot for moderators of partnered servers.
- Paid backer tiers and API access purchased via Ko-fi or our membership system.
We provide the Services on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Detection results may be wrong in either direction; treat them as a safety signal, not a verdict.
Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to install the extension, sign in to rotector.com, back the project on Ko-fi, hold an API key, or apply to a volunteer role. We do not knowingly accept users under 13 in any of these flows.
Users between 13 and 18 should use the Services with parental knowledge. If you are a parent who believes your child is using the Services without your awareness, contact us.
Use of the Services
What you may do
- Use the Services to identify potentially inappropriate accounts for safety purposes.
- Submit safety concerns through the queue, the appeals system, or the support chat.
- Use the APIs in line with their documentation and your tier's rate limits.
- Reference the project in coverage, tutorials, and educational material under fair use.
What you may not do
- Use the Services to harass, stalk, dox, or target any individual, regardless of their flag status.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with the detection system or its safety controls.
- Reverse engineer the classification pipeline or attempt to extract proprietary data.
- Issue requests in volumes that exceed your tier or that are designed to overload our systems.
- Scrape or mass-download our data outside of the rate-limited API access your tier permits.
- Submit false reports, fabricated appeals, or knowingly misleading information.
- Abuse the queue or appeals systems with spam.
- Impersonate another user, a moderator, or Rotector staff.
- Use the Services to break Roblox's or Discord's terms of service, or any law that applies to you.
We revoke access from users found to be misusing the Services. If your access is revoked, you remain bound by the parts of these Terms that survive termination.
Backers, API Keys, and Paid Tiers
Tips, subscriptions, and membership purchases through Ko-fi or our membership system are processed by Ko-fi as the merchant of record. Ko-fi handles the payment; we never receive card numbers.
Refunds
Tips are voluntary contributions and are not refundable. Subscription and membership tiers are refundable on a pro-rata basis where required by law in your jurisdiction; outside of those cases, we do not offer refunds for partial periods.
API access
API keys are issued at our discretion. Keys may be rate-limited, suspended, or revoked at any time if usage breaches these Terms, exceeds the limits of your tier, or risks the stability of the Services. Membership and tier names do not entitle you to specific volumes, accuracy levels, or features beyond what is published at the time of purchase.
Discontinuation
We may discontinue paid tiers or change their terms with reasonable notice. If we discontinue a paid tier, we will offer a pro-rata refund of any unused prepaid period.
Intellectual Property
The browser extension is open-source under the GPL v2.0 license. The Rotector name, logo, branding, classification algorithms, compiled databases, and analysis output remain ours. You may not pass off our name or branding as your own, and you may not republish our database in bulk.
You retain ownership of content you submit to us, including appeals, reports, and support messages. By submitting, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that content for operating the Services. You confirm that the content is yours to submit and does not infringe on anyone else's rights.
Fair use of our name and branding for journalism, review, education, and awareness is permitted.
Disclaimers
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not guarantee uptime, availability, or that the Services are free from bugs or errors.
Our classification output is a safety signal, not an accusation. Flag accuracy is high but not perfect; both false positives and false negatives are possible. You should not treat a flag as a finding of fact, and you should not treat the absence of a flag as a guarantee that an account is safe. Decisions about real-world action (banning a player, contacting a parent, involving law enforcement) should be made by humans using their own judgement, not by the extension alone.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ROTECTOR, ITS DEVELOPERS, MODERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND BACKERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR REPUTATION, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the limitation in this section applies only to the extent permitted.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, misuse our systems, or where required by law. On termination, you must uninstall the extension and stop using the APIs. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination, including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and intellectual property, survive.
You can stop using the Services at any time by uninstalling the extension and ceasing API requests. To delete the data we hold tied to your account, see the "Your Rights" section of the Privacy Policy.
Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. If you have a dispute with us, contact us first through the support chat; we will work with you in good faith to resolve it. Nothing in this section overrides any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country of residence.
General Provisions
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the rest continue in full force.
No waiver: Our failure to enforce a right under these Terms is not a waiver of that right.
Entire agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the privacy-laws explainer, are the entire agreement between you and Rotector concerning the Services.
Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign ours in connection with a merger, reorganisation, or sale of assets.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms when our Services change or when guidance from regulators makes a clarification useful. Changes take effect on posting with a revised "Last Updated" date. For material changes that affect paid tiers, we will notify backers directly through Ko-fi or the email tied to the membership.
